The modern sporting environment demands that an athlete is able to execute their skills in a number of ways and in different scenarios and match conditions. No longer is it sufficient to be able to demonstrate a skill in perfect technique style, the measurement of success is dependent on the athlete's ability to make the correct decisions at the right time in a match environment.

This is no more evident than in the sport of cricket. Cricket has evolved markedly in the recent past and the advent of Twenty20 cricket demands that batsmen are able to score off every ball and bowlers have a wide variety of deliveries that they are able to call upon as needed.

The focus is continually shifting away from the development of 'correct technique' to the development of 'correct decision making'.
